Welcome
Welcome, dear readers, to our humble corner of the internet! Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we delve into the blogging world and share our passions with all of you. In this inaugural post from me, Caytee, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and shed some light on two of my greatest loves: knitting and chemistry. So, grab your yarn projects, get cozy, and let's embark on this fiber-filled adventure together!
Hello, my name is...

Caytee - a lover of yarn crafts and chemistry. As an avid knitting enthusiast, I find solace and joy in crafting with my needles. When I'm not immersed in the world of knitting, you'll find me in the bustling halls of the high school, where I proudly teach chemistry to eager young minds. I enjoy reading fiction novels and watching my favorite TV shows while knitting. In addition to my yarn and scientific pursuits, I am a proud doggie mom to three adorable dachshunds who bring endless happiness to my life.
Stitching the Past - Unraveling the Roots of My Knitting Passion
My passion for knitting traces its roots back to the cherished memories of my childhood at Grammy's house. Within those walls, my sister and I were enveloped in a world of card games, board games, and the enchantment of nature. Grammy instilled in us a love for cooking shows and the magic of creating delectable desserts. She even introduced us to crochet, teaching us how to chain and single crochet. Armed with our borrowed hooks and some well-worn yarn, we embarked on whimsical adventures, fashioning necklaces and jump ropes in multiple colors of ancient acrylic yarn.
Our mother taught herself to knit using instructional books, a cone of cotton yarn, and a pair of straight needles. We tried to learn alongside her, but neither my sister nor I could grasp the English method of knitting, and our mother was also struggling. We learned the basics and could knit simple items like scarves and dishcloths. I essentially put down my needles until my Junior year of high school.
My knitting journey took a decisive turn during a fateful summer in Mississippi. My sister and I found ourselves in the care of our Aunt and Uncle, the former who happened to be an ardent knitter. Our Aunt patiently imparted her knitting wisdom in those precious weeks upon us. She whisked us away to the very first yarn store that etched its memory into my mind. There, amidst a kaleidoscope of colors and textures, we selected Noro yarn, destined to be transformed into felted bags. The act of knitting that summer brought immeasurable joy and ignited the flames of passion that continue to burn within me to this day.
Beyond the Bunsen Burner - How a Passion for Chemistry Created an Educator
They say that when you find something you love, you never work a day in your life. For me, that passion is chemistry. Since my junior year in high school, the world of elements, compounds, and reactions has captivated my curiosity and driven me towards a fulfilling career. This is my journey from a chemistry enthusiast to a high school chemistry teacher, where I discovered the true joy lies not just in teaching chemistry but in making a meaningful impact on my students' lives.
My love of chemistry began during my junior year in high school. The complexity and elegance of the subject fascinated me, and I found myself constantly hungry for more knowledge. I spent countless hours delving into textbooks, conducting experiments, and exploring the wonders of the periodic table. Chemistry became more than just a subject—it became a part of who I am.
As my understanding of chemistry deepened, I felt a strong desire to share my knowledge with others. In high school, I took on the role of a tutor, helping my fellow classmates unravel the complexities of chemical equations and atomic structures. Witnessing their "aha" moments and the joy that came from overcoming challenges only fueled my passion further. This marked not only the origin of my love for chemistry but also the pivotal catalyst that led me down the path of ultimately becoming a teacher.
The allure of the laboratory drew me in during my college years. Armed with a degree in chemistry, I embarked on a career in industry. From a toll manufacturing plant to a research position, I immersed myself in the hands-on exploration of chemical processes. Each day in the lab had its challenges and opportunities to apply my knowledge in practical ways.
However, after spending a year and a half performing the same experiment multiple times a day as a researcher, I began to question my path. While I cherished the scientific discoveries, I yearned for something more—something that would allow me to make a difference on a personal level. It was then that I made the life-altering decision to transition into teaching.
Teaching chemistry to high school students opened a world of new possibilities. Stepping into the classroom, I found fulfillment in imparting my passion for chemistry and nurturing a love for science within my students. Seeing their eyes light up with curiosity and witnessing the joy of discovery has been immensely rewarding.
While I cherish the moments when my students grasp the intricacies of chemical reactions, it is the moments that transcend the subject itself that hold a special place in my heart. As a teacher, I have the privilege of not only teaching chemistry but also instilling confidence, inspiring critical thinking, and fostering a love for learning. When my students come to me, not just to discuss chemistry, but to seek advice, share their dreams, or celebrate their successes, I know that I have made a lasting impact and I am right where I need to be.
So, dear readers, with each stitch, I find myself captivated by the harmony of creativity and science, as knitting and chemistry intertwine. I hope to share my insights, discoveries, and heartfelt stories with you through this blog.
Wishing you a knerdy blend of yarn magic and scientific discovery in every stitch!
